This weekend, Sarah and I visited the local grocery store. A place I visit at least twice a week with Nora. On this particular day, an older woman was our cashier. As I bagged our wares at the far end of the checkout, Sarah and the cashier exchanged some words and some chuckles. Later, in the car, Sarah tells me that the older woman had made a peculiar observation/comment concerning me. In a rough paraphrase, the cashier said “Every time your husband comes into the store, he reminds me of a young Chevy Chase.”

Well? You be the judge.

Well, afternoon anyways. Yesterday we took Nora accross the street to meet her favorite governor, Mr. Brian Schweitzer. I do not know who was more delighted — her or the governor. Either way, it was a great photo-op and a good getaway from the confines of our home. The fresh air did us good, and Nora has gotten her political feet wet. I mean, how many 3 mo-olds get to meet their governor? And how many governors enjoy holding 3 mo-olds?

At any rate, now Nora has something to bring to Show-and-Tell when Schweitzer is in the Oval Office. Right?

photos are here

For the last two weeks, my 200GB external HD (dubbed ‘Communications’) has been acting very slow. It seems to be hogging system memory and takes eons to divulge its folder contents. I’m not sure if I can place the issue with a recent update to OSX, but I’m certainly hoping that there is a future update that might cure it. Then again, I might just have to mosey on over to Lacie.com to see if they have a firmware update.

Lately, I’ve been re-acquainting myself to the now age-old geek expression “O RLY?” Mostly because it happens to coincide with my life-long love of owls (If it were at all practical, I would be a falconer with an owl for my falcon).
Lately, I’ve been re-acquainting myself to the now age-old geek expression “O RLY?” Mostly because it happens to coincide with my life-long love of owls (If it were at all practical, I would be a falconer with an owl for my falcon). About a week ago, I found a great O RLY-themend YTMND page, BanjO RLY. Just looking at the background image makes me laugh, but the banjo music certainly doesn’t hurt none.

So, yeah… I embarked on a short search to find the source image of the now classic O RLY snow owl and found it linked from the above linked Wikipedia entry. In the process, I cam across a website with a whole slew of variations on a theme — www.orlyowl.com. My favorite might be ITSA RLY. But props must also be given to O RLEMENTE and YARR RLY.

So, yeah… the new iMac is set up and we’ve been working exclusively on it. No need for the wonderful PowerBook anymore. ‘Tis the end of an era. But it’s also the beginning of a good story. Well… average story.

See, the craigslist post went live yesterday, and right away this morning at 730am I get a phone call about it. The call was handled by a relay service on behalf of a someone claiming to be deaf or hard of hearing. “OK,” I think. “I’ll hear him out.” (pun intended!)

The call pretty much goes down with this individual declaring interest and wishing to discuss more via e-mail. He gives me his e-mail and I send him a note. Thirty minutes later, he calls back with the relay service. Says he is definately interested and wants me to ship the PowerBook to the UK. Obviously, I hesitate. I tell him I’d rather sell it locally, and he says he’ll double the price. I actually laughed, and I think I heard the relay operator snicker as well. I told him that shipping to the UK for double the price was highly suspect. He ended the call.

We’ll see if any more scammers contact me.
