Sarah’s cousin-Ben had a layover in town, so we went and picked him up for lunch. We went to Famous Dave’s and loosened our collective belts.

I’m hungry posted in food, personal
What I’d really like now is some stuffed french toast from the Egg & I. Man, that’s some good eats. The Egg & I was the last restuarant I’ve been to that actually made good home fries. Maybe it’s just me, but I’m not too into the trend where restaurants put a pile of hash browns on the griddle and let one side get brown before flipping the mess over onto the plate. I like to have my breakfast potatoes cooked. But I digress…
I’m hungry, but I am not allowed to eat.
In roughly 1.5 hours, I go in to get my left knee scoped. After more than a year of tolerating a rough joint, I have made the appointment to get some scar tissue cleaned up and some loose cartilage removed. It’s an out-patient procedure, so everything will be fine. The Doc says I will have some swelling, but I won’t need crutches. I certainly hope that’s true.

Quesomelettedilla posted in food, personal
Ever the consumate idea man, I came up with a new idea this morning. And it’s tasty!
I mixed up some omelette fixins with eggs, onions and cheese. Then I threw a small tortilla into our small frying pan. Then I covered the tortilla with the omelette fixins. Then I thre on another small tortilla. Put a lid on the pan and let the steam cook both sides at once so flipping is easier and voila! Quesomelettedilla!
Oh, I also added cumin and tobasco to the innards. Can’t go without those old friends.
About a week ago, I tried this with one tortilla and cracking a single egg on top, yielding an egg taco. It worked so nicely that I took today’s big step. I am using corn tortillas, too… They are harder to burn than flour. So, it’s easy for me to set it on the stove with medium heat and then tend to Nora’s (and my own) various needs before I am ready to sit down and eat.

Smoky Scotch Tabasco posted in food, personal
You know how your bottle of ‘basco accumulates the dried residue of sauce gone by? For a split second today, I was tempted to pour a little scotch into my bottle of smoked ‘basco and use it as a loosening agent for all that hard-to-get flavor. In the end, I chickened out and used plain old water. But next time… yeah… next time.

Scrambled egg pizza posted in food, personal
I was feeling quasi-lazy about breakfast this morning. We are out of milk, so a simple bowl of cereal was out of the question. Frying an egg is easy, but I’ve had so many fried eggs in my lifetime. So, I finally did what I’ve always wanted to do. I scrambled an egg and tossed it onto a little personal pizza I had in the freezer. It was a little deluxe edition with sausage, peppers and onions — just perfect for adding some egg and extra cheese. Yummy-licious.

Marysville, again posted in food, friends, personal, photes
Friend-Monty is in town and as is our custom for friends-in-town, we took him up to Marysville for some below-average steaks and above-average atmosphere. A few more friends joined us and we started the drinking. The local folk had fired up the bonfire out back for roasting marshmallows and such. With “such” consisting of large ice chunks and butter sticks from the kitchen.
