  • 07.31.06 Oh, What a Night. posted in personal

I seem to be a bit under the weather. At least, a vomit session at 2:30 in the morning and a bit of the runs would indicate as much. Man, my stomach feels like it’s fighting itself. Ugh.

  • 07.28.06 Dew It Country Cool! posted in television, www

    Or not.

I am once again going to try to kick the caffeine habit. And with that, Mountain Dew. It will be a tough battle, since my wife is an enabler and does the Dew like a fiend. But that’s OK. I still love her. I just hope she doesn’t lose all of her teeth before she turns 40.

On a related note… do you remember the old Mountain Dew commercials? The ones from my youth? Cowboy hats, monster trucks, rope swings and large bodies of water? Well, I do. And I spent a few moments this morning tracking down some video to share. So enjoy.

  • 07.25.06 12" PowerBook 4 Sale. posted in geekery, the peculiar

    Posted on Craigslist

So, yeah… the new iMac is set up and we’ve been working exclusively on it. No need for the wonderful PowerBook anymore. ‘Tis the end of an era. But it’s also the beginning of a good story. Well… average story.

See, the craigslist post went live yesterday, and right away this morning at 730am I get a phone call about it. The call was handled by a relay service on behalf of a someone claiming to be deaf or hard of hearing. “OK,” I think. “I’ll hear him out.” (pun intended!)

The call pretty much goes down with this individual declaring interest and wishing to discuss more via e-mail. He gives me his e-mail and I send him a note. Thirty minutes later, he calls back with the relay service. Says he is definately interested and wants me to ship the PowerBook to the UK. Obviously, I hesitate. I tell him I’d rather sell it locally, and he says he’ll double the price. I actually laughed, and I think I heard the relay operator snicker as well. I told him that shipping to the UK for double the price was highly suspect. He ended the call.

We’ll see if any more scammers contact me.

  • 07.24.06 Announcing Monday. posted in home improvement, nora

Well, another fine weekend has ended. Nora was an absolute peach the last few nights, so the house is in a general state of rest. There were a few household tasks I failed to complete, but I blame that on the heat. Even with an A/C unit in the window, the heat outside permeates and you just lose all energy to move about.

One thing I did accomplish, though, was the birth announcements for Nora. A little pink. A little design. And a little girl. I think they turned out great. Don’t you? If you be technically inclined, feel free to download the PDF. Otherwise, you just might receive on in the mail.

  • 07.22.06 The Return of The Mommy posted in personal

Yes, yes. It has been a while, I must admit. But raising a newborn child is hard work, especially when they won’t fall asleep unless they’re actually laying ON you. Makes it tough to type. :)

Things are going well. I was a bit overwhelmed at first, a lot of new responsibility and hormones and such, but am doing much better these days. Nora and I are getting to know each other, and every day is a better day. Last night, the dear child actually slept four HOURS in a ROW. All parents out there know the joy this instilled in both of us, though don’t worry. We aren’t thinking this is a trend or anything. We just had a lucky night.

Of course, it’s going to be 95 degrees here. Again. As it has been since I was in the hospital. Thanks be to our window AC unit, otherwise we’d really be roasting.

Sionara! Adios! Aloha! And all that other stuff. I’ll write again when I can….

  • 07.21.06 F*cking Genius! posted in comedy, www

As of five minutes ago, I have been treated to what very well might be the greatest thing I have seen in years. ‘Tis a shortened version of the Big Lebowski in which it is pretty much trimmed down to all uses of the F-word. GENIUS!

  • 07.21.06 A foolish application? posted in geekery

Now that we have a nice robust iMac on the desk, I have been getting delusions of gradeur. There is so much space and power that I feel oddly compelled to take advantage of all of it as fast as I can. Foolish, I know. What’s mayhaps even more foolish is that I intend to try my hand at application development for the OSX platform. Nothing big, just a simple card game like euchre. I am constantly disappointed by the quality of card games available for OSX. It seems that they are either too simple or too complicated. What need is there for an animated cartoony opponent? That just adds filesize and cost to an application that could be distributed for free.

So, yeah. I’ve installed the tools I need and have been reading documentation like crazy. I just might have something to show in a month.

  • 07.16.06 Sorry for the phote delays. posted in geekery, the site

As a previous post mentioned, we purchased a new machine for the house. A fantastic toy that will take the place of this and next years’ Xmas gift. So, I have been busily setting the machine up so that my old PowerBook can be sold to help offset the cost of the iMac. I hope to have everything in order by Monday night, so you can expect a flurry of new photos on the photolog that evening.

  • 07.12.06 We’re #1123! posted in geekery, home improvement

After a casually exhaustive search, I have found some new house numbers to replace the crappy 80s style numbers on our porch post. The numbers showed up at Home Depot of all places. I’ve been checking out their hardware section for 2 years hoping that they would expand their house number selection and they finally have. They’ve got some new modern serif numbers that aren’t super fat or oblique in any way. The only catch is that they are stick-on numbers designed for those stupid black and gold/silver ornamental house number plates. No worries. I’ve got some slabs of brushed aluminum lying around.

    Check out the end result.
